Privacy Policy – Notepad Chrome Extension

Last updated: 8 November 2026

Summary

Notepad does not collect, store, sell or send your notes or any personal data to us or to anyone else. Your notes stay in your browser.

Where your notes are stored

Notes are saved as bookmarks in a folder called “Notepad (synced notes)” in your Chrome bookmarks. If you have turned on Chrome Sync, Google Chrome copies your bookmarks, including that folder, to your other devices. That sync is handled by Google under your Google account settings and Google's privacy policy. We have no access to it.

Settings such as theme and text size are saved locally in the extension's own storage on your computer.

Templates you save (“Save as template”) are kept in Chrome's extension sync storage, so Chrome Sync can carry them to your other computers in the same way as your bookmarks. We have no access to them.

To protect you from losing notes, Notepad also keeps earlier versions of each note (note history) and restore points of all your notes in the extension's own storage on your computer. It also keeps a copy of the last text this computer saved for each note, so that if a change from another computer replaces a note, the replaced text can be kept in that note's history. These copies never leave your computer, are not synced and are not sent to us. They are removed when you uninstall the extension.

Permissions and why we need them

Voice typing (optional)

If you press the microphone button, Notepad uses Google Chrome's built-in speech recognition. While it is on, what you say is sent by Chrome to Google's speech service to be turned into text, which is then typed into your note. Notepad itself does not record, store or send any audio, and your existing notes are not sent. Voice typing only runs while you have it switched on, and Notepad asks you before using it the first time. Google's handling of that audio is covered by Google's privacy policy.

What we don't do

Links

The extension contains links to this website (for example the Notepad Pro waitlist). If you choose to join the waitlist, the email address you enter is used only to tell you when Notepad Pro is available, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Deleting your data

Delete notes inside the extension, or remove the “Notepad (synced notes)” bookmarks folder. Uninstalling the extension removes its local settings, note history and restore points; your notes stay in your bookmarks until you delete that folder. After uninstalling, Chrome opens a short page on this website that explains this; it does not send us any data about you.
